Up (2009)

Pixar’s first animation movie in Disney Digital 3D is a good watch, is about the Carl Fredricksen, a old reclusive man’s escape from clutches of noisy city to “Paradise Falls” – something he’d promised his wife Ellie.

The movie opens with young Carl’s who shares admiration for explorer Charles Muntz (voiced by Christopher Plummer) with little Ellie – who’s quite Carl’s opposite. Carl and Ellie wed and grow older – nurture the dream of visiting Paradise Falls in South America. When they appear to have saved enough for the trip, Ellie dies of old age. Carl leads a lonely life and finds it difficult to come in terms with the neighborhood that’s transformed into a concrete jungle. After a tussle with a construction worker, court orders him move to a retirement home. When the helpers from the retirement home come over to fetch Carl, he escapes by transforming his club-house into an airship using thousands of helium balloons – in a quest to keep his promise to Ellie.

After being airborne for a while Carl is amused to find someone knocking his door … which turns out to be a Russell (voiced by Jordan Nagai) – a wilderness explorer, who is in quest of “assisting the elderly badge” ends up accompanying Carl in his journey to Paradise falls.

The rest of the movie they encounter the real Charles Muntz, who’s transformed into a heartless in his pursuit to prove himself, gosh every movie needs a villain. The rest of the movie is fantasy ride, where the protagonist encounter talking dogs (or dogs with talking collars), and a large bird, whom Russell calls Kevin (only to discover later that Kevin is actually a “She”).

The movie is funny in bits, something that fades as the movie goes on – much like Incredibles. The movie doesn’t quite rank up like animations from the Pixar stable – like Ratatouille or Cars, but is fun to watch once.

Running time : 1:36 hrs

Director : Pete Docter

My Rating : 3.5 / 5.0

Blog site dedicated to animation movies ...

I don't remember the first animation movie I saw ... probably that was Disney's Jungle Book, I faintly remember some scenes - but was too young remember much. 25 years after Jungle Book, I continue to see all flicks that I come across ... thanks to the Internet and cable television.

I've decided to share my experiences, thoughts and views to people with similar interests ... and this happens to my third attempt to blog. Let's see how this goes ...
